Overview
DisputesEfiling is a UK-based platform that streamlines the dispute resolution process by connecting legal professionals, parties, and mediators through a digital-first experience. With mediation volumes rising and bottlenecks in scheduling slowing down resolutions, DisputesEfiling partnered with Ishango to bring intelligence and efficiency to their operations.

The Challenge
As more cases moved into the online mediation space, the platform faced two key challenges:

  1. Scheduling Bottlenecks – Matching mediators, parties, and case managers based on availability, experience, and complexity was a time-consuming manual process.
  2. Claim Classification – Incoming cases had to be categorized into specific claim types for routing and reporting, but this too was being done manually—creating delays and inconsistency.

To scale their operations and reduce case backlogs, DisputesEfiling needed intelligent, automated systems that could streamline both scheduling and classification.

The Ishango Approach
Our team tackled both problems with focused, high-impact solutions:

  • Claim Classification with GPT
    We developed a machine learning tool using ChatGPT to automatically categorize incoming dispute claims into 15 types, based on free-text case descriptions. The model was lightweight, interpretable, and easily integrated into the existing workflow.
  • Smart Scheduling Engine
    Using Django, Python, and open-source scheduling libraries, we built a custom system that dynamically matches parties, mediators, and case managers based on rules such as availability, case type, seniority, and more. The tool includes an easy-to-use front end and API integration for future platform updates.

Both solutions were delivered within just a few weeks and laid the groundwork for a more scalable and efficient case management process. By automating scheduling and classification, DisputesEfiling is reducing administrative overhead and improving the speed and fairness of its mediation services.
